Karachi's Book Marketplace

Every year, families across Karachi buy new textbooks, storybooks, and school supplies — many of which are barely used before they're outgrown or the term ends. At the same time, other families are looking for exactly those books at a fair price. Kitaab Exchange exists to connect the two: a simple, safe way to buy and sell used school books, university books, novels, and stationery within your own city.

List a book in minutes, browse what's available nearby, and chat directly with buyers or sellers — all without sharing your phone number or personal details. Every listing goes through a quick review before it goes live, and every new seller can build trust through ratings and optional verification.

Kitaab Exchange is an independent, family-run project — built and operated with Karachi families in mind, from the school booklist feature down to the areas you can search by. We're currently in an early beta phase, growing carefully with real feedback from real families before opening up more widely.

Privacy Policy

• Account info: email and password (via Supabase Authentication)
• Your approximate area in Karachi, to show buyers where you're located
• Photos you upload for listings and school booklists
• If you choose to verify your account: photos of your CNIC (front and back) and a selfie holding it
• Payment reference numbers you submit for membership payments (JazzCash/Easypaisa transaction references) — we never see your actual payment card or account details, only the reference number you provide
• Messages you send through in-app chat with other users

• To show your listings to other users, using your display code instead of your real name
• To confirm membership payments and verified-seller status
• To connect buyers and sellers via in-app chat
• To detect fraud and abuse (e.g. fake listings, repeated violations)

• We never show your real name, phone number, or CNIC to other users — your public identity is always your display code
• We never sell your data to third parties
• CNIC and selfie verification photos are reviewed only by our operations team and are never shown publicly

Your data is stored using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Photos and documents are stored in access-controlled storage — verification documents are kept private and only accessible to you and our review team.

You can request account and data deletion at any time. See our full Data Deletion Policy for exactly how to request it and what happens to your data.

Kitaab Exchange is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.

Terms of Service

Kitaab Exchange is a platform connecting buyers and sellers of used school textbooks, university books, novels, and stationery in Karachi. We do not own, inspect, or guarantee any item listed — we connect people, the deal is between the buyer and seller.

You are solely responsible for the accuracy of what you list — condition, price, and description must be honest. Listing counterfeit, pirated, stolen, or illegal material is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate ban.

You are responsible for inspecting an item before completing payment in person. Kitaab Exchange does not process or hold payments between buyers and sellers and is not responsible for the outcome of any transaction.

Harassment, scamming, fake listings, impersonation, and circumventing our review process are all prohibited and grounds for a permanent ban without refund of any membership fee.

Your public identity on the platform is your display code, not your real name. Optional CNIC verification is used only to confirm you're a real person and to reduce fraud — your documents are reviewed by our team and are never shown publicly.

Membership tier fees are non-refundable once activated. Beta wallet rewards are a limited-time programme and may be changed or discontinued at any time.

We reserve the right to suspend or ban any account that violates these terms, files fraudulent reports, or attempts to abuse the reward or approval system.
